Scout Bushcraft Camp June 2014

Scout Camp – 28/9 June 2014

Scouts gathered at The Lea for a bushcraft camp.

Tents were erected and kitchen and dining shelters constructed on Saturday morning followed by a spot of emergency shelter building in the bush.

After lunch the group did some compass work and the Scouts got to try out some special sundials prepared for them by Curlew.

The Scouts prepared a dinner of bolognaise and yummy golden syrup dumplings.

The evening was cold but clear and provided perfect conditions for a game of spotlight, chatting by the campfire watching possums play and card games in the storm shelter.

Rain and wind overnight set the scene for a challenging fire-lighting session, but after a hearty breakfast of eggs and bacon, and lots of hardcore foraging for dry materials, everyone managed to get at a small blaze going.

Meanwhile, Venturer leader Rob cooked chickens on a spit over an open fire for a delicious chicken sandwich lunch.

Thank you to leaders Kookaburra, Curlew, Mark, Alex and Rob, Venturer James and parent helpers Carolyn, Lyndel and Andrew for making the weekend possible. Thanks also go to parents who helped with set-up and the mucky pack-up.
